Supporting Wellbeing and Progression at Doon Academy: A New Chapter for Parker Enterprise

At Parker Enterprise Company Ltd., we are passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people and their families. Our mission has always been to empower individuals to overcome barriers and unlock their potential, and our work at Doon Academy in East Ayrshire is a shining example of this commitment in action.

Our Current Work at Doon Academy

Since November, we have been delivering a tailored wellbeing and emotional support service at Doon Academy. This initiative is led by our Family Support and Development Lead, a dedicated professional with an Honours Degree in Integrated Health and Social Care.

The focus of this service is on providing:

• One-to-one and small group support to pupils struggling with engagement, confidence, or emotional challenges.
• Wraparound support for parents, helping them navigate challenges at home and foster a positive environment for their children.
• Collaboration with key school staff, including the school nurse and campus officer, to create a cohesive support network for pupils.

The goal? To help pupils increase their attendance, engagement, and attainment in school while fostering stronger connections between home and school.

A Positive Impact So Far

The feedback from pupils, parents, and staff has been overwhelmingly positive. Pupils who previously struggled with confidence and motivation are now showing signs of progress. Parents have expressed gratitude for the additional support and guidance, while school staff have highlighted the value of having a consistent, compassionate professional on-site to address complex challenges.

Expanding the Service

Thanks to the success of this initiative, Doon Academy has invited us to expand our service. From January, we are excited to propose extending the support to three full days per week, running through to the end of the school year.

This expansion means more time to:

• Work closely with pupils to build resilience and emotional regulation skills.
• Facilitate workshops and small group sessions that inspire positive change.
• Deepen our engagement with parents and connect them to wider community resources.

By increasing the frequency of our service, we aim to amplify its impact and support even more pupils in reaching their full potential.

Why This Matters

Schools like Doon Academy play a crucial role in shaping the future of young people, but some pupils face significant barriers that make learning a daily struggle. Whether it’s managing mental health, family pressures, or challenges with peer relationships, these barriers can stand in the way of success.

Our wellbeing and emotional support service is designed to break down those barriers. We help pupils see that their challenges don’t define them and that with the right support, they can achieve great things.

We’re proud to be working alongside Doon Academy to deliver this vital service and grateful for the trust the school has placed in us. As we move into 2025, we’re excited to continue empowering pupils and their families, helping to build a stronger, more connected school community.
